[Boatanchors] Speaker repair

I use rubber cement and pieces of "Big Chief" tablets or newsprint.  Basically, a "Big Chief" tablet is just newsprint without the printing.  When I don't have a tablet handy, I just tear off a piece of the Dallas Morning News!

I've been using a very different approach ...

I bought several packages of black paper napkins one Halloween some time
ago. They're really "el cheapo" quality. Depending on the extent of damage
to the speaker cone, I TEAR off one or more pieces of napkin so the edges of
the piece(s) are feathered, and then stick it/them over the damaged area
with nitrate dope using light strokes and a soft brush. I bought the dope at
a hobby store. (Nasty fumes - use in a well-ventilated area). I use nitrate
dope instead of the more available butyrate dope because the latter shrinks
a lot. Sometimes more than one layer of paper is required and/or two or more
coats of dope. The really cheap black napkin paper readily accepts the dope
and contours to the folds in the cone easily. Better quality "dinner
napkins" are too repellant to moisture to work well. (Ask me how I know
this!) I've even repaired dime-sized holes in this manner with very good
results.
