[Boatanchors] Pi- Matching Network: When?

Thanks to everyone for the help on this.
Looks like the answer is 1931 or earlier.
Reason I ask-  
One of my projects is a transmitter 
to match with a 1936 receiver.  
I'd prefer a shunt-feed  Pi-net vs. a link coupler, 
but only if it's temporally correct.
