Lee, Gary,

Also known as a "modified Pierce" as opposed to the original circuit  
where the crystal was connected between the grid and the plate  of the  
oscillator tube.  Invented by Prof. G. W. Pierce of Harvard University  
in 1923 and probably used more over the years than any other crystal  
oscillator circuit.
