I apologize for this off topic question, but I know
there is a pretty deep body of knowledge on this list.

Is there any field of human activity, that uses measurements
based on 1/18th of an inch?  Yes, that is 1 over eighteen.

It is a subject that came up today at my wife's workplace,
so she asked me when she got home.
