Both abbreviations were originally meant as signatures
to telegrams. Best Regards is of course pretty general.
Love and Kisses does not have to be sent to a female, for
instance a wife might sign a telegram to her husband with 88
or say one going "Happy Birthday Bry 88 Mom"
Of course CW is like the Internet, you really don't
know the sex of the person you are talking to unless they
tell you.
These days I have ear rings in both ears, probably from
too much CW.
