There was a Hoffman Radio Company in Los Angeles. They
made radios right after WW-2 but are known mostly for TV
sets. I don't think this was the same outfit. This set,
whether commercial or home-brew looks like late 1930s from
the types of tubes and general layout. It is tantalizingly
familiar looking. If it home-brew the builder also made his
own dials since the dial does not appear to be any of the
commercial types available. The chassis could, of course,
have been adapted from something else but the stamped bottom
plate is beyond home builders. It also appears that it was
in a cabinet of some sort which is missing.
