I need to tighten the flywheel setscrews, but it is a very smooth and solid tuning system. It has a very conventional slide rule dial with a ratio of 140 turns of the knob to 1 trip down (or up) the dial. A bit frustrating if you're in a hurry, but a distinct pleasure if you're not.
Hi Ross - Sorry for the delay responding, ISP issues took me offline
for a few days, resolved this past weekend.
I've spun a few Eddystone receiver knobs over the years, feels just
like a Clegg Venus, Zeus, or Interceptor (probably because it's the
same mechanism?). When clean, tight, and properly set up, they are as
smooth or smoother than buttah as they say in Boston. Right there with
the Racal, SX-28, etc. My B40D is smooth but slips a bit, in need of a
little cleaning and adjusting I'd guess. Received well out of the
shipping container though, and the fellow will be shipping the
matching speaker and a few more connectors once we get things sorted
out on this end. It's certainly a cool receiver, a true keeper for its
uniqueness. It works pretty well for a single conversion set, too!
