About 10 days ago I bought a nice Eico 221 VTVM; it also had one of
those "pin" jacks--I'm pretty sure we're talking about the same thing
where the probe lead plug is thin and narrow, and I didn't have
anything for that so I removed it and put in a regular banana jack.
Of course such a simple thing could not go right the first time--I
thoughtlessly put in the jack with the threaded bushing bolted to the
front panel without the feed through insulator.

I have also recently learned you can't use just any probe and wire
lead with a VTVM--you need to use shielded coaxial leads and for DC a
1 Meg resistor in series with the probe tip.
