They most likely are very old 866s.  The ones with a bunch of mercury.

I realize that this is a Museum Ship, but see if you can get hold of 
some '60s era or later 866s.

They should do better.  It won't hurt their appearance in the Museum 
'character', but really should put an end to the flash over issue.
