Great tube but since they are sharp cutoff they destroy the AVC action. A 
6SG7 is as good as you will get in a remote cut-off octal.

The audiophools love them however.

As a kid in the late 50's I used a 717A in a HQ-129X for 10/15M and a 6SG7 
for the other bands. Standard swap told to me by the old timers. The 717A 
was .25 NIB in Radio Row in NYC.
