Thanks Rob,
I do have a MFJ-1040C preamp that gets occasional use, mostly with the
Zenith Transoceanic as it's performance, both in sensitivity and image
rejection, falls off on the higher bands. I rarely use it on the
Grundig as it's performance is better. Occasionally if a station is
weak on the 15 & 17 MHz bands, and the noise floor low enough (rare
here) I'll use it on the Grundig.

The new antenna I've ordered isn't a loop, it's a transformer coupled
end fed 45' wire. I have enough room and will probably add about 15
foot to it's length which is supposed to help it some on MW where it's
performance rolls off.

If the new antenna doesn't work out well (which I doubt from what
previous tests have shown), I may try one of the MFJ Phasing units. I
played with one once when a friend wanted me to modify it for LF work (a
well publicized mod). My experience with it in the LF range wasn't all
that positive, at least not here. It might work out better here in the
shortwave range.
