All this discussion had me dig out my ham fest rolls of NOS Kester. I dug
around a bit and here's what Kester says from one of the Tech Specs of the
"245
No--Clean Cored Wire" I acquired
" Storage, Handling, and Shelf Life:
Storage must be in a dry, non-corrosive environment. The surface may lose
its shine and appear a dull
shade of grey. This is a surface phenomena and is not detrimental to product
functionality. Flux cored solder
wire has a limited shelf life determined by the alloy used in the wire. For
alloys containing > 70% lead, the
shelf life is two years from date of manufacture. Other alloys have a shelf
life of three years from date of
manufacture."
My Date of Manufacture on all the rolls I picked up is 2002. Oh, well. If
it works, it works. If not, I'll get a fresh roll.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for all the advice on solder. I have definitely learned a few things.
Especially that solder can go bad. Here I thought I was losing my
technique, but I opened a 'newer' roll of solder and it worked much better.
The old one pound roll I was using is over 6 years old. And I'll get some
'active roisin' and give it a try.
73,
Keith
