Here is a very informative link on repairing Bird Slugs. Even if you never
have to do one the information is really good about how they work and are
constructed.

Pop the top off of the element.
There is a screw where you can disassemble the element.
There is also a hole to adjust the pick off voltage for the element.
Is your element dead (detector blown) or does not read correctly (dropped)?
