You have a point Dave. I used to think that way.
But, once you get a private library of symbols set up, a computer really
is very good. It's trivial to move things around and change things. Also,
if there are repetitive things, you can clone blocks at will.
I generally do a very rough drawing on paper, then move to the computer
for detailing it.
IMO, every engineer should know how to use:
Word processor
Spreadsheet
Web browser
CAD program. For drawing at least.
