Google "craigslist nationwide" and you'll get a list of websites that
interface with craigslist and (claim to) search national listings
(maybe international too...). I haven't used any of them so don't
know how effective they are but they're there.

This is no different from ebay. How often do you see an ebay listing
that says "It turns on and lights up but I don't know anything about
this stuff so couldn't test it further"?

One could also say "Why have QRZ classifieds when we have QTH and
eham and...(etc.)?", yet no one seems to be suggesting that.
I certainly have no issue with people posting stuff on craigslist if
that's what they want to do, and it's a chicken and egg thing... if
there were more listings there then I'd use it more, and if people
like me used it more, maybe there'd be more listings there.
