Hello Friends,
I am res-errecting this old 1960 Boatanchor ( Gonset GSB-201)---this is the
oldest version (3340) built Gonset using 4(four) 811-A's not the later
versions using 572-B's that were manufactured by Aerotron after they aquired
Gonset.
The amp uses ''grounded grid'' without any ''tuned input''circuitry --The RF
is fed straight into the filaments from the exiter.
I have made the various mods for the antenna switching to be used with
to-days transceivers and everything is working fine---Getting full output
700-900 Watts on 40.20,15 and even on10 mtrs the amp puts out 700 Watts
On 80 mtrs,however,I only get 450 to 500 Watts out,even though I have the
same 100 Watts drive available from the Tranceiver.---There are 3 positions
to add fixed capactors to the Loading cap,but I cannot sqeeze any more than
500 Watts out of it.---the plate current is also pretty high and the tubes
are getting red in a hurry.(theTuning capacitor produces a normal dip.)
Looking thru all the info on the internet,I have not come up with anything.
Can someone help me along to understand what causes the problem.---TNX in
