Hi Dick,
	There was an article in CQ (I think) back about then, written by Henry 
Elwell (sk), then a W2, later N4UH (Uncle Henry).  He wrote quite a few 
articles for CQ & HR back then.  It was switched xtals, down to 1 kc I 
think.  I have his original notes and correspondence, the magazine 
issue, and the major modules of the system.  He used interlocked push 
switches, like those used in BC & car radios for station selection, in 
decade fashion.  I guess you could call it "DDS", but it's not digital 
as we think of it today.  (you do use your digits to press the switches.)
