The circuits are simple, but the understanding of some people as to the
design parameters is usually lacking.
Few at all have the Real Estate to duplicate the territory to allow for
a single wire antenna that was used on a Ship.
Many of us would have no problem replicating an aircraft's antenna.
However, it pretty well comes down to an aircraft can get a great deal
of coverage with little antenna space by virtue of altitude. Most, (and
I do mean "most"), aircraft comms is conducted at lower power levels
than fixed stations.
So making a TCS-12 operate on someone's home "lot" is going to require
some different matching to allow it to work properly.
*IF* that takes one or two components to achieve, AND is easily
reversible, then what difference does it make?
A comment was made that "They" wouldn't buy such a "changed" item. So
what is the point? It wasn't even remotely being offered for sale!
So how many R-390As are fitted with the appropriate Twin-Ax? How many
have had the 3TF7 replaced with a circuit to regulate the PTO?
I'd venture to say that "most" are aligned for 50 ohm antenna use.
Since long rolls of Twin-Ax aren't hanging on shelves. They work just
as well when aligned for that impedance.
People need to settle down, and leave it to the discretion of the owner
as to what is being done and why.
The Museum's seem to have all they want. They let us know when they
hunt for items.
