Its a radio, not a Rembrandt. 

I agree that it would be nice to see some saved as is for museum viewing or collectors who want it in original shape, but it is up to the owner to do with it as they want. 

I have a 99% original 1950 GMC pickup. I like it like that. But many people change engines, add power steering, mag wheels, power brakes or fuzzy dice. That is their thing and their property. I don't care. 

Interesting, I am restoring a 1950s xmtr and rcvr for installation in the truck. Am I violating my own rules of purity? 

I do own a modified TCS and bought it that way. I intend to modify it more for my own use. I like the radio 

I also modified one back in the 60s with a speech amp and some other items.

Most folks on the list find any such irreversable mods unacceptable, 
and I would never buy a TCS so modified. Everything needed to put out 
full power from the TCS can be done externally.
