It sounds like you are trying to protect the iron in case of a filter cap
failure.
I'd make sure the fuses are of the correct rating and type (fast or slow
blow) and leave it at that.
If the fuse rating is not known, I'd measure the current under operating
conditions and pick a slow-blow type about 10% to 20% above the normal
current draw. If a cap goes short, you may lose the rectifier, but not the
iron.
