[Boatanchors] maybe a relay?

It _might_ be a polar relay for teletype use.  The number is right, or 
close to right.  WECO made polar relays with an 8-pin base, and about 
that size.  Are you _sure_ it is sealed?  Polar relays required 
adjustment from time to time.  It could also be a solid-state version of 
the 255 that was designed as a plug-in replacement.  In that case,  it 
may not have needed adjustment.
