I use auctionsniper, you look at the item and decide how badly you want it and get auction sniper primed and ready to go, say you want a radio that you think may go for around 400.00 but you really want that certain one so you ask yourself what would be the most you would pay for it, say it's 500.00 so you put the auction number into the auctionsiper site with a high of 500'00, if the next highest bid is only 400.00 you might win it at 410.00 most of your reserve wasn't needed but if the bidder bid 475.00 then you be paying close to you 500.00 maximum, Another thing you do is set it to bid with maybe 5-7 seconds left in the auction, I always do this as it deosn't let all the other bidders know that 
i want it too so the bids stays lower as they have no idea you exist until Snipe! you go in and steal it right out from under their noses for peanuts more that they were going pay. This stuff used to happen to me all the time until someone hooked me up with
