I realize this is a small victory compared to those restoring Collins and 
Hallicrafter equipment...

The cause of the Globe Scout 680 not working on AM was no plate supply
to the 6U8 audio amplifier, evidently because one of the "couplate" 
components had opened up.  Previously, had found and corrected wiring errors, and a 
broken AM/CW switch.

I replaced the "couplates" with individual components per the info about 
what is inside PC81 and PC91, found at "The AM Window Tech General Couplate 
Info.htm".

That restored plate supply to the 6U8 audio amplifier, and with a D104 
microphone, the rig is now making an AM signal.  I wouldn't say the audio is the finest 
have ever heard, but sufficient for communication.  Next task is to put it back into the 
case, connect up the Eico 722 VFO and try for an AM QSO.
