Of course not. At least - not in the National version. :D  Then there
was everyone else's version, closer to what I posted. All refer to
Collns' accuracy vs 'listenability'. Hearing isn't an issue with any
Collins receiver I've ever used, they'll hear as well or better than
anything else of the period (no doubt why National made use of their
mechanical filter adapters, to improve their own ability to hear).
It's the bleeding ears that result from trying to listen to a signal
with any amount of fidelity over an extended period. Brief
back-and-forth comms, no problem. At least, that's the impression I
got from the old timers who explained it to me.

Though none of them worked for National. (o:
