First of all, there are no pressure contacts. The connections are directly soldered to plating on the quartz. Next, 9 times out of 10 the quartz will fracture when you get enough heat to unsolder the top. Remember, HC-18/U crystals have about 1/10th the volume of HC-6/U crystals.

It is possible to remove the cover of HC-6/U crystals without having the quartz break. However, cleaning of the quartz almost always does no good because the contacts are permanently attached. Now with FT-241 and FT-243 holders cleaning the quartz and the contact plates, etc., often does work. Unfortunately, with plated crystals in which the connections are permanently attached, cleaning virtually always does no good.

Whats so hard about unsoldering the can? If its already non functional even a slip-up wont make it worse.
