What crystal frequency would the KWM1 require to get on 17m ?
Is it a metal hc6u type?

Hello All,

The Collins KWM-1 is perhaps the easiest BA rig to put on 17 meters. You
don't even need a screwdriver, but you WILL have to buy a crystal. Just
unplug the crystal/bandswitch tray from the front panel, remove the
hardware to open its cover, plug in an appropriate crystal, and you are all set on
17 meters. The KWM-1 will work on ANY frequency between 14 and 30 MHz
(including both 17 AND 12 meter WARC bands) by doing this. Assuming the
KWM-1 is aligned properly, it will work as well on 17 meters as it already
does on 20, 15, and 10.

73, Herman, N4CH.
