Don't forget the Eldico S-Line "clones."
I imagine that most of the pi-network
transmitters of the 50s and 60s also
have enough tuning range to work with
appropriate crystals. You might have to
use 6 MHz crystals and triple to get to
18 MHz. Think Eico, Heath, Johnson, and
a lot of others.
Match to the antenna? We didn't need
no steenkin' tuners back then. Hooked
random end-fed wire into the SO-239 -
- if you were lucky enough to have had
something beyond a wing nut on a feed-
through insulator or even a Fahnstock
clip for antenna connector - - and just
got on the air.
Of course of few of us also got a "pink
ticket" or two along the way. That was
just all in a part of growing up "ham"
back in those days.
