This surprises me.  After a zillion "Rube Goldberg" tries at solving the
"static build-up on the antenna" problem, it was solved during the
early part of WWII.  It's the famous "M-1" mod you see everywhere:
a simple 1-MegaOhm resistor from the base of the antenna to ground.
No effect on the RF, but it drains the static voltage away.
Why isn't so simple a fix still in use?
