Mix a couple drops in water and see if it mixes in.
Not a petroleum base product (fish oil, vegetable oil, not a real high temp)

I am thinking water soluble oil. (about like oil and vinegar)

Steam engine oil to some.

To gem cutters, you mix it with water to lubricate the grinding wheels.

Try it on the stone next time you need an edge on a knife.
