[Boatanchors] VFO To Transmitter Question

I have a 1934 Gross CP-100 transmitter that works fabulously... with crystals. I have been unable to get a VFO to work with it so I''m wondering if someone here has some insight. The oscillator looks like a Pierce with the crystal and a 10K resistor in parallel from grid to ground. The tube is a type 47.

The 47 drives a 210 buffer which drives an 838.

It runs FB with a standard FT-243 crystal. I have been trying to interface a Millen Vari-Arm vfo with no luck. In desperation I tried an Eico 755 as well. In each case the oscillator runs at a different frequency, nothing close to where the vfo is running, crappy signal besides. I can't figure out what the problem is.

The Vari-Arm has inductive coupling to the oscillator while the 755 has capacitive coupling.

Is there some simple solution that is obvious to all except me?>

Thanks, 73, Scott WA9WFA
