[Boatanchors] Boatanchors Digest, Vol 84, Issue 4

One primitive type of dummy load I sometime use are my toaster and my
electric iron -- why not a higher
wattage soldering iron? -- you can tune out the +jX with a variable
capacitor. (Also use appliances
as DC dummy loads when testing high current PSU's.)
I have 52 and 70+ ohm high wattage and parallel connected carbon resistors
on hand
and the built-in dummy loads in my ATU's and Yaesu wattmeter.
I happen to have several 40-100W bulbs, and there are still a few places
here in Cph. where u can
buy incandescent lamps - think the law here allows retailers to sell out
pre-law acquired stock.
I remember an article in Hints & Kinks where someone uses light meter
readings of a bulb dummy
load as a wattmeter.
Maybe customers claim they buy them as decorative objects or pretend they're
going to plant "electric
tulip bulbs" that can survive winter frost.
Happy 2011 to all.
/Henry, Cph.
