[Boatanchors] Strange noise on 75 meters

Same thing, almost in this neck of the woods. Raspy noise and plenty of
harmonics; some are at 3.520MHz, 3.770MHz, 3.890MHz, 7.160MHz, & 7.290MHz to
name a few. Not coming from my house, opened all the breakers and the
harmonics were still there on a portable SW receiver.
To find the source I found a frequency that both my station receivers and
the portable could tune. Then walked around the neighborhood with the
portable SW receiver and shortened the antenna as the noise got louder.
There was one fly in the ointment, the source was coupled to the support
cable which hold the telephone and cable wires between poles. Once I figured
out that the support cable was acting like a long wire antenna it was
somewhat easier to pinpoint the source. Just happened to be a neighbor on
the same power transformer as my house.
All the RFI is coming from the support cable and neighbor's house. If I
disconnect the station receiver's antenna, the RFI is gone.
The pattern on an O'scope sort of looks like a Christmas tree on its side.
Using the line sync position for horizontal slows the pattern but still
scrolls from right to left. On an spec analyzer, IF band width at 10MHz and
scan width at .05MHz per division the peaks looks like a volcano erupting.
Opening up the IF bandwidth to 100KHz or 300KHz a real nice square wave
scrolls across the CRT. Great Fun!
Unfortunately, the neighbor could care less and has more or less told me to
pound sand, has ignored letters from the FCC and phone calls from L. Smith.
L. Smith and the FCC engineer from Vancouver, WA have called me about the
issue. Waiting for the hammer to drop.
73's and gud luck hunting
