Couple things Nick, from my understanding.  First is the switchmode 
power supply they use to power the LEDs, which naturally has to be a 
high efficiency supply since these changeouts are justified on the basis 
of energy savings, and have to comply with federal (ITE) standards.  The 
other factor is you just know how the installations are going to be done 
- the contractor will use the existing wiring which was installed when 
the old incandescent lights were, and that means unshielded wire, not 
even twisted pair.    In other words there's a noise-generator connected 
to an antenna that happens to be draped pretty much overhead as you're 
sitting underneath it.
