[Boatanchors] OT CFLs

I am definitely not in favor of the fact that the incandescent light bulb is on its "way out". However, as for the CFLs: The very first batch that I bought did have a very short life (bought 5 bulbs!). However, since those bulbs I haven't had any problems with either noise or the life of the bulb. What I have been purchasing are the "on sale" bulbs at Lowe's and Home Depot that run under $10 for 5 or 6 bulbs. The brand name varies but I suspect that they all come from the same Chinese source. A good number of them are in light fixtures attached to ceiling fans and they generally are in a 45 degree angle between bottom up and horizontal.

The only thing that I don't like about them is that they take a minute, or two, to come up to full brilliance. But as for noise, I cannot tell any difference when the bulbs are turned on or not. The light fixtures in my radio shack are fluorescent (have been for decades) and no noise from them as well.

The same short life argument applies to crappy CFLs.
