I have used a white paint stick with good results.

     FWIW, I have had good results using the paint pens made 
by Sharpie, not the _ink_ ones, these are actually filled 
with enamel and come in a couple of tip sizes.
     It would be useful to know the method used at the 
factories who made engraved panels. I've never been able to 
find out.
