Carl only gets what we leave for him. (o: We open the gates at 8AM
Friday and watch the procession as everyone drives in. After that, all
bets are off. A buddy of mine bought a like-new Johnson KW Flashbox
from the same seller and we looked over the Collins gear. Both of us
already had enough projects, though. It was as Carl says, very nice,
very clean gear. And Carl did get him down a fair amount more on the
price than he was asking. I will say, if you're following Carl at any
hamfest, you'll only get what he doesn't want. He has one of those big
electro-magnet cranes stashed in his coat and delivers loads of gear
back to his van with it so he doesn't have to lose his place.
Now, last fall Carl wussed out because of the wx forecast, and as a
result, radio gear traveled much further down the food chain. So
anything's possible. You can probably tell that some of us enjoy
razzing Carl. We don't let up at the hamfest, either. He has a
several-decade head start on us, so it seems fair.
John, if you've gotten your traveling museum back on the road, why not
bring it up next fall for NEAR-Fest X? I can send you an Exhibitor's
pass and you can pick out a prime spot to set up. I know those in
attendance would enjoy seeing the collection and talking with you.
