This is a new one on me. Have you ever heard of a device that will not
allow NIMH batteries to be charged using an external charger (my MAHA
C777plus) ? What in the world kind of gadgetry would know if I
charged my batteries in the device or elsewhere?

Here is my inquiry to the MFR:
Dear Richard,
Thank you for your recent inquiry to our Consumer Sales and Service
Center. Please keep the original email attached with our response in
case further assistance is needed.

The phone model CL81209 (and all of our cordless products) is designed
to have the battery charged while inside the battery compartment of
the handset. Charging the batteries while outside the battery
compartment will not work.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Thank you for contacting AT&T.

Comments: My question is of a technical nature. I would like an
explanation as to why the batteries cannot be charged externally and
then inserted into the phone. I am an electronics technician with a
lifetime of communications and telephone technical experience. I own a
very sophisticated computerized analyzer/charger/conditioner/cycler
which I use for batteries of all types. I charged the batteries to the
full capacity and conditioned them, only to discover that the phone
will not accept these properly charged batteries as fully charged and
ready for use. The battery status indicator shows no charge and the
will not recognize a full charge until I leave it on the supplied
charger stand for at least 16 hours. Why is that?
Thanks in advance,
Richard
