Subject: [Boatanchors] WTB: Older Bug with shorting bar.

Many years ago I had a bug, Lionel I think, that had a
shorting bar for hard-keying the transmitter without having
to hold the dash key over manually. I foolishly sold that
bug and replaced it with a couple newer Vibroplex bugs,
without shorting bars.

However, I now find a situation where I could use that older
bug with a shorting bar. Does anyone have one kicking around
that they'd be willing to cut free? Not looking for pretty,
just functional. As long as it is complete I can clean it
up, it will be used, not collected. Let me know what you may
have and what you'd like for it.

I think the only Vibroplex key made without a circuit
closing lever was the Champion. This was a low cost key,
essentially a simplfied version of the Lightening Bug. I
don't think they were made fro very long.
You can probably rig a circuit closer by mounting a
strip on one terminal post so that you can swing against the
other. Used bugs of various sorts show up on eBay frequently
but sometimes at elevated prices.
The Lionel key was a Signal Corps J-36, the Lionel ones
being exact copies of the Vibroplex Lightening Bug or Model
No.6 There were at least three other patterns of J-36 keys,
the Lionel ones being the most common.
Despite the circuit closer lever being a hold-over from
wire-line practice I also find them useful for radio.
