Paul,
That brings back memories. I helped build those things in the late 50's working in the Dayton,OH plant 
for the production supervisor Dewey Wombold (still  remember his name, forget my name sometimes though) 
my job being to get the correct blueprint for the current project and determine all the components and 
quantities needed and sending the order to supply room so  they could set up the assembly line. Sure had 
no idea at that time what in the world anyone would use these things for until 10 years later when I 
became a ham. never owned one.

Have a STACO 3PN1010 variable transformer which needs a brush replaced
repaired.
A nice looking encased unit, 0-140vac 10amp with a grounded plug and outlet
but it needs a brush and they are about $40 outright.
Maybe you can repair it or maybe just use the core in a power converter.
Fits a medium flat rate box so $12 pays the postage anywhere in the 48
states
