That really doesnt hold true all of the time. Many BA's have lower TX IMD 
and virtually no phase noise. On the receive side the absence of phase noise 
means being able to dig deeper

Plus not having a panel full of useless bells and whistles is a huge 
benefit!

The most modern rigs I own are a TS-950SD and a highly modified TS-940. When 
it comes to digging into the noise on 160/80 CW chasing DX the much modified 
75A4 Ive had since 1965 and that shares the Beverage antennas is the best 
Ive ever used. Its also more sensitive on 10M.
