[Boatanchors] Henry 2KD3 amplifier

Has anyone ever rebuilt or modified a Henry 2KD3 amplifier with two 3-500Z tubes and changed the resistor and capacitor networks on the grids to ground? I have rebuilt several SB 220 amps and merely put a 3ohm resistor from each of the three grid pins on each tube to ground and they worked fine.

I have been told that I should not do that with the Henry. I don't doubt the advice but would like to know if anyone has modified a Henry 2KD3 that way and how it worked. The amp is 40 years old, so I think it qualifies as a boatanchor and it is certainly heavy enough.
