[Boatanchors] Question For Today

I started small with the test equipment inventory with mil surplus back in
the 60's. I never fell into to the low end stuff trap found in many TV/radio
shops as coming from the USN to National gave be a strong appreciation for
quality.
As my needs grew in the late 80's I started adding high quality from HP,
TEK, GR, Boonton, etc and overhauled each piece before adding it to the
bench.
I now have a decent vintage TE bench for working on boatanchors modeled on
what I used at National in the Service Dept and R&D. Missing are the TEK
heat generators and HP-524 counter!
I also have a more modern bench with SS gear to work on modern rigs and
fairly complicated oldies such as the HRO-500, RA-17, etc.
What I have noticed is that once overhauled the vintage TE is solid, but the
SS stuff has reached the point of a high rate of cap failures and out of
tolerance resistors as well as several "should not occurs" with HP sig gens
and spectrum analyzers in particular.
