BRAVO!

     I have seen crooked caps in other equipment including a 
Hewlett-Packard 606-A signal generator. Stators not aligned 
with the rotors and rotors bent a lot to compensate. Even 
though I worked for -hp- at the time I have no idea how this 
happened but suspect it was that way when new.
     Another place one finds mis-aligned caps is in the 
Hammarlund SP-600 receiver. These caps have adjustable 
stators. I think they drift with time. Sometimes someone has 
bent the rotors to try to compensate, in fact there is a web 
site detailing how to do this DON'T DO IT!!, its not 
necessary. What _is_ necessary is to remove the cap assembly 
(not too difficult) and align the stators so they are 
centered between the rotors and lined up at the edges.
