well, it is square if you mean the base looking at it from the bottom
up or down from overhead.

the 302 is the style found on shows like I Love Lucy.  it has the
ringer and everything in one unit except for the handset obviously.
They were metal up to WW2 then made out of bakelite.  Black with brown
cloth cords.
