Hi Larry,
	Not sure where you're looking, but try Mouser.com.  Axial leads seem to 
be getting like you say, particularly in the higher voltages, but 
"radial" are still more affordable.
	And they don't have a min. qty & don't tack on extra handling, etc., chgs.
