Somewhat off-topic but I didn't start this :)

For a low-level AM detector, the LM1330 works very well. This uses an LC
network and
limiting amplifier followed by a product detector, so works over a wide
range of signal
levels, and doesn't need 10s of volts to detect AM.

The drawback is the LC network. So this works FB in a superhet but is not
useful in a
TRF receiver.
