[Boatanchors] Apache Transmitter - Modulator tube change

Hi:

A TX-1 Apache followed me home from the Shelby Hamfest.  It's all there except for the modulator tubes.  The 6CA7 market is pumped into orbit cost wise so I'm looking for a reasonable alterntive to the two 6CA7's.  Has anyone run different tubes in the push-pull?  I'm thinking about trying a pair of 6146's.  Any input is appreciated.
