My first Novice transmitter was a BC-459 ( of course ;-),
but my first "commercial" rig was a Globe Scout 680A.
It had to be good to survive the "Novice diddles" 
I inflicted on it.  I never had any trouble.
Made many-a xtal-controlled contact on 7167
(until BBC cranked-up on 7165 and wiped me out).
Then they changed the band and I had to find another
xtal- 7125 KC.  Good times.
