I took the package to the Post Office, along with several other packages that I needed to mail at the same time. The personnel at the Post Office would not let me mail the magazines by media mail. They asked me what was in the package and said that they would have to open and inspect the material. I told them that the contents were magazines from the 1950s and was told that anything with advertising in the material, no matter how old, cannot be sent by media mail. The Postal regulations do not make any differentiation as to how old the advertising material actually is.

It seems that way too many people have been sending things by media mail that do not meet the requirements just to save money. I see the same clerks time after time and they are quite friendly and helpful. However, there are certain regulations that are in place and, in the case of media mail, the "higher ups" have "cracked down" on the abuse and the clerks have to follow the regulations "to the letter".
