[Boatanchors] Enigma?

Hello Dave (and others),
 
Don't know where an enigma machine is, but hope your Heathkit  rig is put 
to better use than something I saw on network TV some 30-35 years  ago.   
Remember seeing an episode of Kojak where he was talking into a  microphone 
that was plugged into an old Bearcat 8 channel scanner in his  car.........with 
red lights flashing as he talked.   Would be  interested in how he got the 
thing to transmit.........maybe this was an early  form of spread spectrum 
(?).
